Support through change

Change is inevitable; sometimes it is initiated by us and other times it is thrust upon us, causing chaos, turmoil and disruption in our lives.  This is especially the case when it comes to declining health, sudden illness, increasing frailty or death of a parent.  ‘Adult children’ can find themselves pulled in different directions, trying to juggle their own busy lives and families, while dealing with the changing circumstances of a parent, who is often in shock or no longer able to cope with what is happening.

Our ability to cope during times of stress can be greatly enhanced if we have access to support. Older people and family members, particularly those in a caring role, may benefit from talking to someone who is neutral and outside the family, to help them come to terms with what is happening.

Senior Services offers one to one support in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment where you are free to talk about your concerns and fears and explore any difficulties you are facing. Through the coaching process, our trained, experienced professionals will listen, ask questions, encourage and help you develop coping strategies that will enable you to regain a sense of balance and control in your life. One to one support can be undertaken face to face, by phone or email.

Issues that may benefit from one to one support include

  • Moving elderly parents or relatives to a smaller home or into care

  • Balancing work, family and caring responsibilities

  • Managing physical and emotional stress

  • Bereavement

  • Family relationship difficulties

  • Loneliness

  • Retirement
